From Eula's Kitchen Window...April, 2006
Well, are you folks getting excited about the
new beautiful red growth we are getting on the freshly pruned roses? I
love that color. Now, that the roses have leafed out it is time to be
adding mulch. No doubt we will be having blooms before long, there are
a couple of rose bushes in my garden at this time that have a few bloom, don't
know what their hurry is, the weather is still quite cool. I like to
hold on the fertilizer until we get some milder weather, but however you folks
want to do, OK.
Our climbers, Lace Cascade, we have on the bamboo fence are so pretty with their
shiny green foliage. When those roses bloom they can remind one of
mounds of snow. Those roses bloom continually through the summer, not as
heavily as they will for the first bloom cycle, but one can have blooms most
of the time.
My little birds are still having their daily meals from the roses along the driveway. We
have some little wrens around at this time, which we have never had before. I
hope they stay, they are a little chatty bird and so quick in movement.
At this time begin thinking about the Riverside Community Flower Show coming
up. Remember we can enter other plant material besides roses but there
should be a good showing of roses again this year. I am hoping to see all
of you exhibiting roses or other flowers this year. Remember
it is important to have that name on the rose and the variety it is. Also,
on any other plant material, if their is a name of that plant be sure to add
it to the exhibiting tag, along with your name and phone number. We will
have several of our Rose Society Members working at the time of entries, so ask
questions and you will get the help you need.
What is cooking in the oven at this time? Hot, granny smith, apple pie. Boy,
does that smell good when you walk into the kitchen.
See you all at the April meeting. I'll be asking for some help with the
flower show.
