Marilyn's Musings - May, 2006
May is finally here! It was just a couple of months ago that each of us were pruning all of our roses and it seemed like Spring would never arrive. I was driving around town the other day and everywhere I looked I could see the efforts of our fellow gardeners. Is it just me or do you also notice that the roses in bloom just seem to jump out as you pass them by? I hope that you have a chance to “stop and smell the roses”.
With the help of the excellent information contained on the new Riverside Rose Society website, everyone can have those beautiful blooms in their yards as well. Be sure to read each article from beginning to end in the “Articles” section, and also to check out the “Calendar” section for all the cool RRS happenings this coming month. I hope to be getting some great photographs of my roses to add to the “Gardens” section of our new website, and all of you should do the same!
Since Mothers Day is May 14th, what a wonderful opportunity to gather up some roses and present Mom with a bouquet from your garden. I do this every year for my mother. Maybe it is a tradition you could start in your family. You could also adopt a Mom/Grandmother for the day. Several friends of mine have children who are not close by so I make sure that they have a rose bouquet as well. It makes the miles apart seem not so far.
I look forward to seeing all of you at the rose show where I will be doing “Trophy Detail” with Kathy Swanson. Friends, like our spring, it will be here before you know it. June 3rd is just around the corner! Give Bonnie a call or e-mail her and find out how you can get involved. It will be a wonderful and rewarding experience I know you will never forget. Happy Mother’s Day!
