Green Ice

Nature’s bounty comes in all colors, but the most abundant – green -- means life, growth, hope and renewal. Spring officially begins in the month of March, but wee bits of green seedlings have been peeking out in their beds ready to burst with growth. Green also abounds on St. Patrick’s Day with green beer, green cabbage, shamrocks and even the Chicago River sports a fine green color. Green also signifies harmony, balance and stability. Of course, roses must show off their own style of green by way of the miniature rose, Green Ice.

Bred by Ralph Moore in 1971, Green Ice has unique, one inch, 25 petal blooms of soft apricot or white to green. Shade is the key to bring out the green blooms. The better the bush is protected from the midday sun, the darker green the blooms will be. The average height of this vigorous, repeat bloomer is 14” – 18”. Green Ice has lavish, glossy foliage and large clusters of blooms. This disease resistant little show off is an excellent bush for hanging baskets. For a nice touch in the rose garden, give Green Ice a little shady spot and wait for the wearin’ o’ the green.
