Trip to Flower Fields/AARS Test Garden

Date: April 22, 2006

Following a report at last month’s meeting by Gordon Ballmer, Coordinator of an April Field Trip to The Flower Fields, Armstrong Garden Center and Christopher W. Greenwood Rose Walk of Fame and AARS Test Garden, in Carlsbad, California, a number of members expressed a desire to make the trip.

Thereafter, Chris Greenwood from Armstrong Nurseries was contacted to learn the best time for us to make the trip so that members would not only be able to see the runnunculas in all their glory, but the roses in bloom at the Walk of Fame and AARS Test Garden as well. Mr. Greenwood stated “the later in the month, the better.” So with that in mind, and due to the fact the weekend of April 29-30 we will be involved with the Riverside Community Flower Show and Garden Tours, April 22nd is the set date for the Field Trip.

The cost at the Fields will be $8 for adults, $7 for adults over 60, and $5 for children…a modest sum to pay for such a tremendous amount of beauty in one place, not to mention the good time we’ll all have together. A picnic lunch afterwards in a nearby state park is also being considered.

The group will meet at the Moreno Valley Convention & Recreation Center in Moreno Valley (2 miles east of the I-215, on the corner of Alessandro and  Frederick) at 8:00 A.M, and caravan from there to Carlsbad, which will take about an hour and fifteen minutes, according to Mr. Ballmer. Some members are contributing by providing their vans, SUVs, cars, etc., to transport members, while others are helping out by paying the drivers for gas.

From the show of hands at the last meeting, it appears that this is an event Society members would really enjoy doing, so please plan on attending the April 4th meeting where the coordinator of the event, Gordon Ballmer, will be giving us all the details so that we can put our final plans into place.
